Why did I create this book?
For the past 9 years I have been working in various preschools and have had the opportunity to learn from the children, what an effective and entertaining lesson is. I have tried to make my lessons more intriguing, and moreover feel less like a lesson and more like they are part of a game, craft, or even magic show. Hence, I thought I would put all my ideas in one place and make it easier for teachers and parents.
The book takes out the factor of stress of what to do, how to do it, what will I need to it.
How is the book structured?
All the activities are a continuation of the previous one. They follow a pattern, or bring the previous lesson back as a revision. You can follow the same pattern or you can choose from any page you like or download any theme you are interested in. All activities can be done during circle time when all the children are present, by introducing to them the lesson first and incorporating the activity into it. You can then do the crafts/activities with them in small groups or 1:1, if you can.
In my lessons I often try to incorporate science and the surprise-effect or as the children call it the "magical" effect. This develops their attention and they are able to sit for longer, it sparks questions and curiosity, and at the same time engages them throughout the lesson.
Will there be more themed books?
Yes, more themes and books are coming up, as I like to change my themes monthly. I tend to explore the theme I have chosen for a specific month in deep, and then move onto to the next. Some themes may take longer than a month, but by using different kinds of activities, crafts, science experiments, the children never get tired of them and only learn more!
What can I expect to find in the book?
There are flashcards, templates, and worksheets in the book that can be printed and ready to be used. There are explanations for every activity and there are two boxes that indicate "What you will need" and "Vocabulary" that will be learned during that lesson. Since there is a continuation, the vocabulary might not change much and that will help with revision of certain words.
